BREWSY
A native iOS app,
Empowering Entrepreneurs
Brewsy is an independently-owned Bakery/Tavern in downtown Austin, Texas.
They were looking for an app that allows established and potential customers to review their menu, learn about their staff and culture, place an online order for services or events, or place a food order to be picked up.
Preliminary Ideas
* Represent their brand authentically.
* A layout that is organic and inviting.
* Highlight their story, staff, and culture.
* Simple, intuitive store to help grow business.
This is a project from my CareerFoundry’s
UI Design Certificate Program.
what is brewsy?
A bakery and tavern owned and operated by passionate people who love coffee and beer. They actively highlight the local community and embrace the personality of the city of Austin.
They are open from 5am-11am and 5pm-11pm.
Essentially an AM Bakery & PM Tavern!
MY ROLE
I created the brand, story, and UX design.
This is the only class project where we had no constraints or direction. So I decided to tap into my professional past and create a platform to help a Chef/Owner grow their business.
evaluating the market
While shaping the design, I drew inspiration from industry leaders like Starbucks.
New users can explore the app without creating an account. Have an intuitive tabbed navigation system: subtle color changes, clever feedback, and approachable UX design.
Gathering user data before making any purchasing decisions is an awful industry standard I kept discovering. Also, overloading the user with too much information and invasive advertisements; were turn-offs.
Native apps that featured full-screen spreads, some personality, and clearly defined sections, were the most enjoyable to use.
the contents
A few core pages, as most of the content, would feature their menu and events.
Home Page
* Brief introduction to the brand and a place to highlight what’s ‘New at the Brew.’
About Us
*Introduce the team and culture, and showcase the staff's skills and personality.
Express Menu
*A quick source to scroll through and place an order, and coordinate a pick-up time.
Events
*Highlight featured attractions and allow visitors to reserve a place to attend.
Local Spotlight
*A showcase of the community businesses that support the restaurant and culture.
The user flow.
Optimizing the User Experience
Simple and intuitive navigation, transparent costs of goods, and focus on the goods, services, and culture of the brand.
prototypes
Comparing Mobile Design Patterns.
As a bonus, I have created the prototypes for both the iOS and Android platforms.
To be transparent, this was the core teaching point of this project. I thought it could be beneficial to share that info as well.

project reflection
A native app is not ideal for this customer.
A responsive web app would be more accessible for them to maintain and update daily. However, this consideration was not a requirement for this class project.
